AI in schools

GenAI has been reshaping learning approaches within schools, raising fundamental questions about the skills educators and leaders need to teach and assess. This also impacts how teachers, school leaders and students operate in their different school contexts.
For many, the rapid of genAI evolution, including the number of new tools and influx of information around them, can be overwhelming and confusing. We are here to help!
The Academy is committed to exploring genAI tools and applications in education. Our support includes empowering teachers and leaders with the knowledge, skills and resources to:
- understand as leaders how to support the safe and effective implementation of genAI
- use genAI tools effectively in teaching and learning and curriculum implementation
- use genAI applications to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes
- prepare students for a technology-rich world and the evolving demands of the future.
Academy Professional Learning
The following Academy professional learning programs incorporate a focus on AI:
Thought Leadership Series
Short webinars that connect you with experts on topics such as cybersecurity, the future of education, creativity, and the use of AI including in the school environment.
- Kirra Pendergast delivered a session titled Cybersecurity and AI at Schools. This session has been recorded and covers an introduction to AI, including safe and ethical use of AI in schools.
- Dr. Ron Beghetto delivered a session titled The Future of Education. This session has been recorded and provides rich tools and insights that foster creative implementation of generative artificial intelligence applications in teaching and learning.
Generative artificial intelligence webinar series
The Academy is planning a series of webinars to cover the different considerations around and applications of generative artificial intelligence across schools. These will be recorded and made available for self-paced learning.
Webinar 1: Applications of genAI in the classroom
The first webinar in the series was delivered on Thursday 3 April (Term 1 2025) by Academy Expert Teachers in Residence. This webinar focussed on the applications of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in a range of classroom settings, in line with statewide and national policy guidelines and frameworks, along with ethical and risk management considerations. The webinar concluded with a spotlight on an Academy alum sharing their own practice, in addition to a Q and A segment.
Other genAI resources
The following resources will help educators better understand genAI and its broader uses and impact in education.
