System leaders generally work beyond their own school or setting and collaborate with a common purpose, taking on a collective responsibility to influence learner outcomes and reduce the variability of performance within and between schools.

Bastow supports the work and contribution that system leaders make to the Victorian education system through a number of strategic professional learning offerings and initiatives.

    WISE: System Leaders

The WISE: System Leaders program provides professional learning, development and support for system leaders – including Network Chairs, Senior Education Improvement Leaders and network executives – to facilitate networks, collaborate with other schools and improve student outcomes across Victoria.

The program aims to create a consistent focus on collaborative effort for improvement in all networks and schools to meet Education State targets. The program runs over 8 months and is by invitation only.

Education State Leadership Conference and Area Principal Forums

The Education State Leadership Conference and the Area Principal Forums are designed to bring school leaders together as a community of leaders and learners.

These collaborative learning experiences explore the research and evidence about what helps lift student outcomes; developing and sharing evidence-informed, innovative approaches and practices to school improvement; and planning in-school actions to apply new learning.

    Train the trainer model

The Literacy Master Trainers, Numeracy Master Trainers and Inspire: Facilitator Training courses build the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to deliver the Literacy Local Leaders, Numeracy Local Leaders and Inspire: Local Leaders courses.

The ‘train the trainer’ model supports a coherent, system-based approach to building leadership capabilities, building teacher capacity, and empowering teachers to improve student outcomes.
