My name is Rhys Doyle. I'm the principal at Kensington Community High School and we're located in inner West of Melbourne. As educational leaders, we do care. We want to create an environment that is safe, inclusive, where students feel like they belong because of the environments that we have developed within our schools.
So what inspired me to move into leadership? I was lucky enough to have great mentors, all great educational leaders. The one quality they've all had is their ability to provide feedback but also provide a clear career pathway for me as well. I've been lucky enough to work with the Academy over the last 10 years in different programs. In the last five years in that leadership space, I've been able to undertake the Unlocking Principal Potential course. I've completed the VAPA. I really enjoyed the VAPA process. The best part about it is you supportedby an assessor and they work with you through the whole process and when there is things that you might need to work on, they work side by side with you to overcome that challenge. Felt like I came out with some really clear goals on what my strengths are but also things that I might need to go away and work on too.
I'm currently utilising the Principal Mentorship program this year and I look forward to working with the Academy in the future to provide others the same opportunities.
